Dragon: The Quest

Dragon: the Quest is a card game inspired by Magic: the Gathering. It is created for educational purposes only and should not be sold. The main idea was to see how Magic could work if it had no mana lands, and no casting cost. The cards on this page have been play tested and are now considered Alpha edition. People who become members for a donation of at least 1 dollar get bonus cards. If you aren't interested in playing the game this might still be a half-decent source for some background and translations.

Click the next at the bottom of each page to view more cards.

How to make the cards
To play with these cards just go to a comics store and buy 100 or more Magic: the Gathering lands (or an equivalent worthless card) and a pack or 2 of cheap card sleeves. Then put 4 images of a card on each page of a word document, set your printer to it's best setting and print them out. Then cut the images out and slip them in front of a land card inside of a sleeve.

Updates

Dragon: The Quest

10.3.2002
The contest is now over. Here are the results for the Dragonlord card.

8.30.2002
I added 4 new cards: Sword of Kings (Erdrick's Sword), Wing of the Wyvern, Wizard, and Wolf. I no longer have any Dragon Warrior 1 cards to add.

Correction: The ability the Wizard has counts as a magical attack.

8.23.2002
I added 4 new cards: King Loric (Lars), Princess Gwaelin (Lora), Stopspell, and Swamp Cave.

8.17.2002
I have added more information about how to help create this Dragon Quest card game. Go here if you are interested.

8.16.2002
I added Skeleton, Sleep (Rarihoo), Sleeping, and Slime.

I decided the Dragon Warrior just wasn't fun enough, so I completely changed him. He he has less strength, but I still feel he is a little more powerful and more fun.

I recently found out I messed up the Medical Herb, so I fixed it. You were supposed to be able to draw 2 cards with it, not one.

8.9.2002
Fixed the Dragon Warrior. His spell is supposed to damage tapped characters, not all characters an opponent controls.

Armor of Radiance

Translation: Erdrick's Armor

Image: This image is from dragonsagadensetsu.com.

Description: This armor mysteriously does different things depending on the game you are playing. I don't think any of the abilities really had to do with it being radiant.

Rules: Absorb is an amount of damage prevented from each source. If four characters block a hero wearing the Armor of Radiance, then 2 damage is prevented from each of them.

Some abilities may only be used by tapping them. This turns the card sideways and makes it no longer functional. Non-character cards like Armor of Radience lose all abilities when tapped.

Ball of Light

Image: I scanned this image myself. It came with the goodies I got when I subscribed to Nintendo Power to get Dragon Warrior for free.

Description: The Ball of Light seemed to be used to keep monsters away in Dragon Warrior 1. In Dragon Warrior 3 it was only used to destroy a barrier around Zoma. It was never used to defeat demons, like Lorik claimed in Dragon Warrior.

Rules: Characters are considered to have 2 strength as long as they have 2 strength left. It does not have to be the character's maximum strength.

Some abilities require a payment more than merely tapping the card. Ball of light requires you to discard cards. You may choose to discard any cards of your choice.

The Ball of Light is legendary, so only one can be in the game. If a second is played, it is destroyed, and you may not use it's ability.

Blue Dragon

Image: This image is from dqshrine.com.

Description: Blue Dragons were found at Charlock Castle. They didn't have any abilities other than fire breath.

Rules: So far I have 4 playable dragons. They usually aren't a good choice for a deck since they often require you to have few cards in your hand.

Charlock

Translation: In Japan this castle didn't have a name, but it was called Charlock in the US. It was used by the Dragonlord and Zoma.

Image: This image is from dqshrine.com.

Description: Charlock mysteriously was all underground. It looked tall, but the stairs only went deeper.

Rules: Since people couldn't see you if you were in a castle, I decided it should be hard for them to cast spells on you. Magic resistance nullifies all magic abilities and spells that ordinarily would affect a character. If a magic resitant character is enchanted, the enchantment is destroyed.
