With the new capacities that Online play has offered Magic, Wizards has been continually made cards that would only be useful online. The first of these was Infectous Rage in Judgement. No one would ever use this card without playing online. How would you determine which creature it randomly goes onto? If it can enchant any of 5 creatures will you roll a 5-sided die? I don't think so. And now starting with 9th Edition many cards will only be playable online with the new Online Only mechanic.

With this new mechanic many sets will introduce powerful effects that are only possible online. Time travel, random effects, and... that's about it actually. If you get these cards for paper magic they won't do anything, but on Magic Online you can enjoy them in all their glory.

Butterfly Effect can unfortunately make a game a draw by being played over and over, but it can be useful in other ways. It could be good in an affinity deck if you want to do something risky and go back in time if it doesn't work.
