Dragon Quest 7 Has Been Released!
Dragon Quest 7 was released on the 26th. Its not in English, but it should be released in America soon enough! Here are all the links to Dragon Quest 7 material I could find:
Dragon Warrior Online
Joey has found someone to make character animations for the map screen and to make some original music for the game, but he still does need a lot of help.
Dragon Warrior TI-83
Chris Brotzman sent his 7th newsletter about his project to make a Dragon Warrior game for the TI-83. He has made
improvements to make graphics load faster, easier starting monsters, and you now start with gold.
He plans on programming it to let you walk in towns and programming in spells. His next newsletter should have a demo.
Abbadon: Dragon Warriorish RPG
Abbandon is a playable RPG by Gérard Ian Prud'Homme, but might still be changed. It isn't a Dragon Warrior clone. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but I heard it was similar to Dragon Warrior. Abbandon is a "FREE Future-Past Post-Apocalyptic Anime-Style CRPG." The webpage has lots of information about it.
Erdrick's Grave
This is actually old news, but for those like myself here is some new information about Erdrick's Grave. Erdrick's grave was in Final Fantasy 1 (just to prove DW was first) at Elfland. In revenge Enix hid Cid's grave in Dragon Warrior 3. My friend Mike found information on Erdrick's grave on the bottom of classicgaming.com's Final Fantasy Secrets page.
Alefgard: Dragon Warrior MUD
According to the DQDWNN Alefgard (the Dragon Warrior MUD) needs people who know C++.

Dragon Warrior Online
Joey, the programmer of Dragon Warrior Online, is wondering if you would like to use a mouse during the battle. Go to http://jimgray.tripod.com/poll8.html to vote.
Dragon Warrior Online Statistics
I created about all the statistics involved with Dragon Warrior Online needed and sent them to Joey. I studied the damage system in Dragon Warrior 1 for a while and came up with a system that closely resembles it for damage. Maximum non-critical damage will use this formula: "attack power"/(4.0 - [attack-defense]/20)
Joining the Dragonlord
Joey plans on creating a single player version of the game first, but I've still been helping him with some ideas for the multiplayer version. One idea he will probably use is the ability to join the Dragonlord to be rewarded for defeating good heroes. That way people can choose to be the defenders of the Dragonlord.
Attributes
As you play the game you will be able to choose your character's attributes. This way you can lead your character to different character classes. High Strength and Intelligence will be required to use certain weapons and spells properly. You might still be able to use a weapon or spell without the requirements, but you won't be able to do it as well.
Release Dates
Joey hopes to get the single player version of Dragon Warrior Online released before December, but he has no idea when the multiplayer version will be released due to the rediculous amount of programming. It really depends if people help him program it. I find it likely he will get some help considering he will be teaching a computer programming class soon.
Help Make Dragon Warrior Online!
Joey no longer needs a winsock coder, but he still needs some help with Dragon Warrior Online including an example of a server-client program with in windows done with winsock and a tile artist. If you want to help create Dragon Warrior Online please email Joey at djsteffe@unity.ncsu.edu

Dragon Quest 3 Remix Translation
Illuminus, the group creating the DQ3r translation finally has their own website. Go there to keep up with their news, screen shots, and more information on their organization.
DragoNite
Olivier Van Rompuy, the programmer of a Dragon Warrior clone called DragoNite, sent me this email:
I've been reading the suggestions and bug reports people send me about
dragoNite and I've started to work on the code a bit.
The bug that occurred mostly (during the first combat in a new game) has
been removed, so those nasty crashes or shutdowns are gone in version
0.2
I also made a new feature:
you now can choose from several hero's to play with. At the moment
there are three : knight (old one), dwarf and mage... They all have different
characteristics, so you must adjust your strategy a little...
This new feature is included in version 0.21, I trying to upload it at
the moment, but I'm having some trouble with the fortunecity FTP-server.
I'll try to get it online in the next few days.
At the moment you can download version 0.2 with the bugfix...

Dragon Warrior Online
Joey needs statistical information for Dragon Warrior Online:
- how to determine damage
- what the statistical effects of spells are
- what statistically attributes do (IQ, attack power, etc.)
Email me if you have anything to contribute at jimgray@writeme.com
Dragon Warrior for the TI-83
Chris Brotzman has released a new demo and newsletter for the Dragon Warrior TI-83 right before he left on vacation (so don't expect a reply to emails soon). Now he has a working battle engine. Chris let me know that the battle engine could still use more work. This is what Chris said about how statistically you deal damage in DW83:
It'll divide one by the other [attack power/defense] with those stats the damage will be one. Then it'll add a random integer between 1 and the level you're at. If you were at level 20 it would find a random integer between 1 and 20. Say that number was 17... the total damage would be 18 points. It's a bad system; I'm trying to make something better
Slimeland
I did a search for "King Slime" on Google and found one of the funnest Dragon
Warrior pages in the world! This page is actually ancient (about 2 years old), and is long forgotten.
I have a feeling Dragon Warrior Fans never got a hold of it until now. I introduce to you...
Slimeland!
Slimeland is an interactive town of slimes using Dragon Quest 6 screen shots and DHTML to
let you wander about a slime village talking to slimes, finding secrets, and teleporting to
other pages, such as a Dragon Quest 6 fan page and a final fantasy interactive town. To interact with Slimeland you must use Netscape. To move
just use the number arrow keys. Slimeland and Final Fantasy Land are both Kurumaland Virtual Towns made by the webmaster

Dragon Warrior RPG Maker Clone
Video Wizard created a Dragon Warrior 1 clone using RPG Maker 95. Video Wizard is working on
a clone for Dragon Warrior 2 and plans on making clones for DW 3-5 as long as 5 gets translated.
Video Wizard noted some changes in the remixed clones:
Dragon Warrior 1 remake:
- It allows more than 30 levels (can't be changed)
- Most areas are the same
- Enemies are stronger in some areas, weaker in others.
- Level ups are at different amounts
- New dungeon in the lake northeast of Tantegel
- New dungeon south of the Great Swamp (take a boat to get there when
the game
is beaten, face powerful enemies)
- A few new items in the town there, town is named after you.
Dragon Warrior 2 remake:
- True to the original
- Allows more than 50 levels (can't be changed)
- Again, level ups are at different amounts than original
- Must name characters at the beginning (when opening editor)
- There will be a few extras.
I played Video Wizard's Dragon Warrior 1 clone and it was pretty cool. The only thing I felt it
could really use was more original graphics. Both of Video Wizard's Clones will require RPGMaker
95 to work.
Dragon Warrior Community
Hyperbrad started a Dragon Warrior MSN Community. Here's the email I received from him:
"I'd like to tell you that I just started a community on MSN called "DW4
Heroes". It's URL is http://community.msn.com/DW4Heroes . It doesn't
look like all that much but it's just getting started. If anyone wants to
join they are more than welcome to (no profanity or lude content). It isn't
just about Chapter II It's about all of DW4 (eventually)."

Dragon Warrior Online
Daniel Joey Steffey is back but needs help programming the game or he believes it will take
forever to make all alone. Email him at djsteffe@unity.ncsu.edu
if you are interested. You can also email him if you can contribute to the game in any way
including graphics, sounds, or music.
Dragon Quest III Remix Translation
Searching through the news archives of the DQDWNN
I found the information about the DQ3r translation project by Illuminus and decided to contact someone
working on the project to see if it was still active. I have spoke with PC Wanderer, the Project
Coordinator and Senior Editor of a Dragon Quest III remix translation project. Wanderer let me
give him a highly formal interview on the progress of the translation using AOL Instant Messagers.
We wondered off topic so I edited the interview to make sense for the viewers.
If you are interested in joining Illuminus keep yourself updated with my
newsletter to find out when they make a website which will have the details.

Dragon Warrior for TI-83
Chris Brotzman of ZELCH42 Productions has been programming a new Dragon Warrior clone for the
TI-83. The game will take place in Alefgard between Dragon Warrior 3 and Dragon Warrior 1.
In the newest demo Chris "perfected and optimized and implemented the
picture drawing system. What this means is you can now have pictures of the
enemies you battle in a TI-BASIC RPG. This sort of thing has never been done
before to my knowledge, and it works pretty damn well! It's a little slow,
but if I keep the number of pixels per enemy low it shouldn't be too bad."
You can play this Dragon Warrior Clone with an emulator. A TI-83 emulator can be downloaded at
http://www.zophar.net/ti.html. To
use the emulator you still have to get a ROM image of the calculators hardware by downloading it from the
calculator using a program available on many TI sites.

Dragon Quest Anime Fansub Projects
Apparently there's two Dragon Quest anime fansubbing projects. The one I wrote about in my
first newsletter is still going to happen. Chris, One of the people working on that project,
won a set of VCD's on ebay containing the entire Dragon Quest series and will start serious work on
the subbing after he receives them.
DragoNite
The new Dragon Warrior clone I mentioned in my last newsletter named DragoNite may be quite
safe to play. Although I believe some problems with my computer resulted from playing
DragoNite, I know other people have played the game safely. The problems I got from DragoNite
was probably caused by having several programs on at once, and one of them probably caused a
conflict. If you play the game I suggest not to run many other programs at the same time.
Playing DragoNite requires directX 5.0 or greater and 8 to 16 MB of free RAM. You can
download directX free at http://www.microsoft.com/directx
http://members.fortunecity.com/oli303/ for more
information or to download the game.

Dragon Warrior News Archives
This is all the major Dragon Warrior News I could find already written
Dragon Quest 7:
Dragon Warrior 1.2 remix for the Game Boy Color:
Other Dragon Quest Games:
Dragon Warrior 1.2 Remix for Game Boy Color
Here are some details I have gathered about Dragon Warrior 1.2 Remix for Game Boy Color:
- You can save anywhere (but you lose the saved state once you play again to prevent cheating)
- There will be new items and probably bonus dungeons
- Bosses will be much harder and much more rewarding to defeat
- Treasure chests that used to be pathetic now will often be more rewarding
- Some drawers/pots, etc. will probably contain items
- Monsters in Dragon Warrior I will give much more experience and gold
- One button will bring up the menu window and the other will do quick actions (open door, talk, etc.)
- It will have a translation closer to the Japanese version (Loto instead of Erdrick)
- Old English will be removed to save memory

Dragon Warrior Online
Daniel Joey Steffey has left for a week so any newsletter updates I post in that time will
be progress me or anyone else who is helping to make Dragon Warrior Online has made.
Joey's reaction towards the story and quests I wrote for Dragon Warrior Online is promising. He
basically asked where to place some new caves the series of quests I created required (and more
details in general). The story is basically a replacement for Dragon Warrior I, which could
easily be changed. The game will definitely take place in Alefgard and will have the Dragonlord
as a great enemy. This means either I have to remake Dragon Warrior I with new dungeons and
quests, create a story unrelated to past Dragon Warrior games, or have a story that takes place before the
Dragonlord was destroyed.
As far as monsters I have completed all the original-looking monsters of Dragon Warrior I (but I
haven't recolored them to be the rest of the monsters). Go to my
Dragon Warrior Characters page
to take a look at the monsters he will use. I will still probably make more including babbles
and possible all-new monsters. I'm not sure if Dragon Warrior Online will use the Dragon Warrior
Monster's slimes I made. It might only be legal to use the older monsters.
As far as Battle Backgrounds I have found some pictures of Final Fantasy IX houses I might use
as a model for houses for the battle background in towns, but I haven't started to draw it yet.
I posted one of my articles on Dragon Warrior Online with a short explanation about what Dragon
Warrior is to several Game/RPG sites. So far one says they will add it after they fix some
problems with their site, and another called
www.RPGdot.com already added it as their first article for their news on 8/2
Dragon Warrior MUD
The Dragon Warrior Mud, Alefgard, at
Alefgard.com was recently semi-opened. Basically they need people to help build the world.
So far 755 rooms are created but much more needs to be done. You can enter the MUD to talk to
people but there are no guilds or adventures yet. To help out Erdrick is usually in the MUD to
talk, or you can email him at erdrick@alefgard.com
Drago Nite
A PC game called Drago Nite is being created. Basically you have to use the mouse instead of
using message commands. I did enjoy the game. Basically you run around fighting several monsters at once. Everything has lots of hit
points and deals little damage. When you start the game you have to fight some monsters, talk to
a guy to recharge your strength, then talk to a guy to save the game. When you die you have to
go back to your last saved state. Go to
Drago Nite for more
information about the game.
Dragon Quest Anime Fan Subbing
Razma needs donations to help fansub the first four episodes of Dragon Quest. Razma needs 4
different people to sponsor $40. People who sponsor the tape will receive a master copy of the
tape before it is distributed to anyone else. To help out email Razma at
ramza@videogamers.com
