DragonQuest Dungeon - New Clone for the TI Calculators
Dwedit is making a new Dragon Warrior Game for the TI82, 83, and 83+ called DragonQuest Dungeon! He just started. It has dungeons, stairs, battles, and gray-scale graphics. Go to the Dragon Quest Dungeon Webpage for more information and to download the demo.

Dragon Warrior and Dragon Quest Sales
I added the sales and ranking of most Dragon Quest games in my Game Data page.

Dragon Warrior Legend Percentage Complete
Added maps, tilesets, casino cards, title screen, and in-game dialogue to the percentage complete section. Monster graphics will mostly be borrowed from the other Dragon Warrior games. RPGKing is also considering releasing a demo before the game is complete. The demo might have two quests (probably unrelated). In one you would destroy a powerful villain, and one would be a prologue to the game. Visit the Dragon Warrior Legend webpage.

Dragon Warrior Legend Screen Shots & Progress
Added 3 screen shots of the menu system and table of the percentage complete to the Dragon Warrior Legend webpage. RPGking is still finishing up the menu system. After that he will finish the magic and battle systems. The magic system will just be a simple hack of the item system: Spells are just items that you can keep and use by spending MP.

NES Dragon Warrior 1 Clone for GBC
I found out about a new Dragon Warrior clone being made for the Game Boy Color. The programmer (Matt) was disappointed with how the current remake of Dragon Warrior 1&2 for the GBC was so much easier than the original Dragon Warrior so he will make a version more like the original. You can email Matt at ryuuhi@programmer.net. Here is what Matt had to say:

What I'm creating will not be a hack of Dragon Warrior 1&2, but rather I'm starting from scratch, and creating it as close as possible to the original, but for the GBC.

It will be possibly to transfer the ROM to a cartridge to be played on a real GBC with the use of a GB Xchanger or similar device. I want to create it so that it will work perfectly on both emulators and a real GBC too though, and I don't have access to such a device. So if you know anyone who does and would be willing to do some testing, let me know!

Thanks for your help,
Matt

Dragon Quest Monsters 2 Release Date
The release date for Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 was moved to be March 9, 2001. Yes it was changed AGAIN! I found this information at the Kingdom of Alefgard

Dragon Quest Monsters 2 Screen Shots
RPGamer.com added some screen shots for Dragon Warrior Monsters 2.

FAQs Organized
I divided the Dragon Warrior Series FAQ and Dragon-Warrior.com FAQ into 8 sections each to help find what you want. The Dragon Warrior Series FAQ has the following sections: Changes from Dragon Quest to Dragon Warrior, Background Information, Game Information, New Releases, Game Play, Fan Projects, Anime & Merchandise, and Mysteries.

No ROMs at the Dragon's Den
The Dragon's Den has taken down its ROMs. Nintendo sent an email to propose they would take action if the Dragon's Den didn't get rid of the ROMs. I wonder if Nintendo is on recent crusade to tell all sites with ROMs to get rid of them or if it has to do with the remake of Dragon Warrior for the Game Boy Color. The Nintendo ROM of Dragon Warrior could threaten the sales of the new Dragon Warrior remake.

Dragon Warrior Series FAQ Update
I added 10 more questions and answers to the Dragon Warrior Series FAQ including the mysteries, "Is Erdrick or Loto the real name of the Dragon Warrior 3 hero?" and "Why are there no helmets in Dragon Warrior 1?" A couple of the questions also deals with the numerous names for monsters (for example the metal babble is called hagure metal in Japan and metabble in Dragon Warrior Monsters). There are now 80 questions in the Dragon Warrior Series FAQ.

About.com - Dragon Warrior Codes
Here is an update on codes links:

1.21.2001

Dragon Warrior Legend Developments
I got more information on the story of Dragon Warrior Legend. RPGking will try to explain a couple mysteries of the Dragon Warrior series if possible, and he also makes fun of them in the dialogue. The story will have one major plot connection to the previous Dragon Warrior titles, and will have at least two smaller ones.

Dragon Warrior Legend will probably have at least one highly powerful artifact that will be the cause of a quest in itself.

RPGking is 80% done with the menu system. The equip menus, item bad display, and some graphical touches are among the few changes needed.

Some more screen shots may be provided soon to let him show off the different menus.

Dragon's Den - Dragon Warrior 1&2 for Game Boy
The Dragon's Den has completed its section on Dragon Warrior 1&2 for Game Boy. It has maps, codes, items, complete monster statistics, and spells.

GameFAQs.com - Dragon Warrior 1&2 Game Boy Color
GameFAQs.com also has a section on Dragon Warrior 1&2 for Game Boy. The maps aren't made by screen shots, but they should be useful. It also has walkthroughs and codes.

Dragon Warrior Legend Story Development
RPGking has notified me that this Dragon Warrior game will have some references if the past Dragon Warrior games:

You know how I said this will have absolutely NOTHING to do with the previous Dragon Warrior storylines? That's been changed for the better. Let me just say that once you play this game, and get a little ways into it, you'll notice a LOT of stuff from the previous DW's. This really does enhance the plot greatly, and it has much more twists now. So I just thought I'd let you know ahead of time, so it wouldn't be too much of a shock.

Dragon Warrior Legend Progress
The bug in the inventory system made you nervous? RPGking already fixed it! Here is what RPGking had to say:

I just wanted to say that I've hunted down, found, and fixed the slot#9 bug. The problem was that I didn't declare a large enough array to hold all the slots... And even a simple bug like this took me a LONG time to find. I hope I don't run into anything else like this in the future ;)

Dragon Warrior Legend Progress
The new home-brewed Dragon Warrior game, Dragon Warrior Legend, continues to be developed. The programmer, RPGking, has made continual progress (that can be found in my news archives). Lately RPGking has been programming the inventory and battle systems. Here are the latest developments:
  • The status & item menu has been coded (but there is a small bug in the item system that needs to be fixed.)
  • He has figured out how to load in monsters for battle.
  • He has been working on allowing monsters to be summoned during battle.
  • More Information on Dragon Warrior Legend & this update.

Links That Open in a New Window
I have made the button links to non-main pages of my site open a new window. If you don't want a new window to be opened just click on the text link. This should be able to make navigation easier, such as to take multiple polls without pressing the back button.

1.13.2001

Poll: Why Aren't There Helmets In Dragon Warrior 1?
Helmets are in every Dragon Quest game except the first one. Were helmets just added as a "bonus feature" to the later games, and part of the body armor in the first Dragon Quest game? Were there literally no helmets for some reason? Take the poll!

Dragon Warrior 1 Bestiary
The bestiary contains the origins, descriptions, and pictures of every monster in Dragon Warrior 1. Answers a few mysteries like why anyone would make a monster out of gold, why wolves are so strong or are humanish, and why the Dragonlord was afraid of a dragon.

RPGamer.com's Game Boy RPG of the Year: Dragon Warrior 1&2
RPGamer awarded Dragon Warrior 1&2 the Game Boy game of the year, and Dragon Warrior Monsters got third place.

Dragon Quest Anime Guide
I found a new site called the Dragon Quest Anime Guide based on the original Dragon Warrior anime. It has a summary of all 13 episodes and description of the main characters.

Slime Dance
Slime Dance is musical dancing fun. I found this site from a link on Partial Translations.

1.8.2001

Pictures: Slimes only in Dragon Warrior Monsters
I made a picture with all the slimes only in Dragon Warrior Monsters. There are two of each slime: the smaller one was from the game and edited and the second one was my own invention.

New Possible Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 Breeding Combinations
Madness935 offered an idea for a couple breeding combinations. I made one of them, but I didn't really do it justice. I decided to make a couple other breeding combinations too (one is a remake):

Copper King

Spot King?

Die (Pl. = Dice)

New Icons
I added 5 new Dragon Quest 3 icons and 13 icons of Dragon Warrior Monster Slimes (including the metal king and king slime).

GameSpot Game Boy Game of the Year: Dragon Warrior 1&2

Dragon Quest 7 Sells 4 Million!
Dragon Quest 7 is Japan's top-selling PlayStation game; it outsold Final Fantasy 9 by over a million. Dragon Quest 7 and is the best selling Dragon Quest game. Dragon Quest 3 gets second place selling 3.8 million.

Note: RPGamer.com reported it sold over 4 million, but RPGfan.com reported it selling slightly under 4 million copies.

I finished Newsletter 26.

1.5.2001

Dragon Warrior Links Directory
I have reorganized the Dragon Warrior Links Directory categories (now with Game Translations, Clones & PCs, and Anime & Manga as categories). I will also change the descriptions of the sites and remove some abandoned sites soon. I also added these 8 links:

1.5.2001

Illuminus Has Moved!
Illuminus, the organization translating Dragon Quest 3 for the Super Famicom, has moved to illuminus.emulationworld.com and it has a new site layout.

Dragon Warrior Legend
RPGking is back from his trip so he will resume creating Dragon Warrior Legend. The game is almost finished as far as programming is concerned, but the game still has no trace of a story. The story shouldn't take long to place into the game and RPGking has already written a 20-page story to add to the game.

Internal Site Search
I updated the internal search for Dragon-Warrior.com to account for its new structure.

1.4.2001

Dragon Quest Clone Translations
Darin found some great translated Dragon Quest clones. There have been several Dragon Quest clones released for the Famicom (NES) in Japan by professional companies. Some of the few good ones have been translated. I made the Dragon Quest Clones page with a description and download for 4 of them.

Dragon-Warrior.com Site Map
The Dragon-Warrior.com Site Guide is now a site map (76kb) and is actually more artistic than of value as a site map. This site doesn't really need a site map anyway, but... HAVE FUN!

1.3.2001

Dragon Warrior 1 Clone Demo
Woodus is making Dragon Warrior 1 to be played on your PC by using RPG Maker 2000. He already has a nearly finished demo for download.

Fly's Website
RPGking found an extremely complete website for the Dragon Warrior Anime, "Dai No Daibouken (Fly)" called Fly's Home Page. It has lots of information and several pages of the Dai No Daibouken story.

1.3.2001

Dragon-Warrior.com Updates
I have made several site updates. The biggest is a layout change from 2 levels of navigation depth and several new windows to mostly 3 levels of depth with few new windows. This was done mostly by remaking the Dragon-Warrior.com FAQs and Dragon-Warrior.com Archives sections.

The Dragon-Warrior.com Archives section now has a button and description for every link and I made pages for animated gifs, pictures, and icons using the same layout.

As you may see I also reorganized the home page to look better, be more consistent, and less confusing. I removed the top 10 link, the Dragon Warrior Newsletter submission, search engine, and news update list from the top of the page and put them with the news. They will be eternal news, but at least out of the way and consistent. Then I added the site section descriptions back to the top of the page to help people understand what Dragon-Warrior.com has to offer.

Plans for Dragon-Warrior.com
What no poll? Since I seemed to have made too many updates due at the beginning of every month I have remade the schedule for updating my site.

From now on in the first week or two I will reorganize my site and update the archives, in the second week I will add the new poll, in the third week I will update the Dragon-Warrior.com FAQs (including answering the question of the poll), and the fourth week I'll do whatever else I want and needs to be done.

Since some people voted for my images as being the most used sections and my archives section is so plain and boring I decided it deserves to be glorified for its greatness. I am currently working on recreating the Dragon-Warrior.com Archives Section to be more fun, visually appealing, and artistic.

Dragon Quest 4koma Manga Translations
About 15 more scans were added to the Dragon Quest 4koma Manga Translations Page yesterday (Dec. 31st).
