More Ways To Save Dragon Warrior IV for PlayStation
JJ S. has written an Open Letter to force Enix to face their fans. If we all show our disapproval of Enix's excuse for not releasing Dragon Warrior 4 and explain good reasons why, then they must recognize that they should release Dragon Warrior 4, or at least explain the situation a bit more clear.

Dragon Warrior Gold
Dragon Warrior Gold is a nearly complete remake of Dragon Warrior 1 by Steven Sloan (Wildo2ne). The only things left to program are the torch, a few spells, and the healing abilities of Magic Armor and Erdrick's Armor. Steven has also been working on a remake of Dragon Warrior 2.

Sakura Con
Enix will have a big announcement at the next Sakura Con. Here's an email I got from Isaac Alexander:

Hi. My name is Isaac Alexander, and I'm a Corporate Liaison for Sakura-Con, the Pacific Northwest Anime Convention taking place April 26-28, at the Seattle Airport Hilton & Center in Sea-Tac Washinton (right next to the airport). We're expecting between 2,000-2,500 people to attend our convention this year for our 5th anniversary.

Here's a pictorial review of our convention last year.

We've been informed by Enix of America that they will for the 3rd year in row host a panel at our convention. Also, they've informed us that for the first time, they will be doing a major news announcement at our convention. This is the only event, other than E3, where you can meet with the actual representatives of Enix, and talk with them about their games (and games not coming to North America).

Message Board Down.
I should have mentioned this before but since the Alefgard.com server is down that not only means that my mirror site is down, but my message board is also down. Unfortunately it wasn't repaired as soon as I hoped. Luckily it might be repaied this weekend.

Fan Game: Dragon Warrior 1 Gold
Looks like a new Dragon Warrior 1 Clone is almost done, but it needs a web host. Here is the post I saw at the Dragon's Den's Message Board:

I have been working for over a year on a remake of Dragon Warrior 1 for the PC, it is currently to the point of complete, that is to say playable from beginning to end with only a few minor things missing. I am in need of someone to host the game for me about 40megs. I know it seems kinda large for a remake but it has improved audio and graphics which unfortunatly make it a rather large download. anyone who can help me please contact me at wildo2ne2@cox.net with the subject DW Gold.

Thanks for your time.

Dragon Warrior for the TI-86
A complete clone of Dragon Warrior. I heard the damage formula was off, but being complete is good at least. This is the second complete fan game of Dragon Warrior I have heard of (that is actually called Dragon Warrior anyway). If you can get screen shots or can write a review please email me at mageslime@yahoo.com.

Canada!
I heard Enix of America's failure to release Dragon Warrior 4 not only affects the U.S., but also Canada. I wouldn't surprised if it affects England and Australia too (not to mention anyone who wants Dragon Warrior in English). The point is just that I want Enix to release Dragon Warrior 4 for the PlayStation in English. Sorry for any confusion.

Mirror Site Down!
Sorry but someone hacked the alefgard server, so it looks like my mirror site will be down until the weekend. I was going to make another mirror site on my tripod account, but then a day later it was deleted! And yes this does mean my Message Board is also down.

Advertise to Save Dragon Warrior 4!
Even though my mirror site is down Dustin (webmaster of www.dqshrine.com) made a mirror of the Dragon Warrior 4 page at www.dqshrine.com/DW4. You might want to link to that one since it has no ads.

HeartBeat Left Enix!
Many people believe the reason Dragon Warrior 4 won't make it to America is because Heartbeat (a company involved with programming what was necessary to translate Dragon Quest 7 for the US has stopped working with Enix. I already mentioned some of my thoughts about this in an early post below. Enix of America never said anything about this on their site, so I wouldn't conclude this is the only reason. The real reason is still money. We would get every Final Fantasy game no matter how many programmers quit since it's so popular!

How To Support Dragon Warrior IV!
I have made it a quest of mine to help support Dragon Warrior 4's US release. My webpage for supporting Dragon Warrior 4 is here, which also has some relavent comics. 8 Bit Theater (the most popular RPG sprite comic in the universe) has already agreed to help out on the cause! Here are the ways I have come up with to help bring Dragon Warrior 4 to the US:
  • Send Enix feedback. Let them know you will buy Dragon Warrior 4 if it comes out for the PlayStation. You might also want to give them ideas like if they really want to release games for new systems then they should just improve the graphics and release it for the PlayStation 2, and if they are worried about losing money then they should just sell the game direct by mail order to produce as many copies as needed.
  • Buy Dragon Warrior 7! Prove to them that Dragon Warrior games can be profitable.
  • Help sell Dragon Warrior 7!
  • You can link to the quest. I made this banner and this button you can use!
  • If you want to help massively advertise this quest you can donate money for advertising (email me at mageslime@yahoo.com for instructions). You can also buy advertising for this quest at www.aaddzz.com.
  • Vote for my comics site!
  • Sign a petition!

We Want Dragon Warrior IV!
Dragon Warrior 4 for the PlayStation has been canceled. Basically Enix finds it as a financial risk when considering Dragon Warrior 7 sales for the PlayStation. Unfortunately for us this Dragon Warrior 4 remake could very well be the best Dragon Warrior game ever made. Dragon Warrior 4 for the NES had one of the most detailed adventures, great characterization, and a very original arch enemy. This remake has lots of bonus features including the ability to control the characters in the fifth chapter, and a bonus 6th chapter to explain lots of mysteries and plot holes dealing with the arch enemy, Saro.

My advice is to either give Enix feedback, buy Dragon Warrior 7, and sign a petition. If you send enix feedback let them know you will buy Dragon Warrior 4 if it comes out for the PlayStation. You might also want to give them ideas like that if they really want to release games for new systems then they should just improve the graphics and release it for the PlayStation 2, and sell the game direct by mail order to produce as much as needed.

A Really Bad Explaination From the GIA

More on Dragon Warrior IV cancellation
[03.07.02] » Cause of death: Heart failure.

While Enix may be citing slow PlayStation sales as the reason behind the cancellation of the U.S. release of PSone remake of Dragon Warrior IV, the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine sheds further light on the subject. Heartbeat, the developer behind Dragon Warrior VII and the remake of Dragon Warrior IV, which reused DWVII's engine, recently withdrew from all software development, taking with it any chance for a US localization for the remake.

While many gamers assume the English localizations are handled in the US, it is often the case that the original developer is responsible for the tricky programming behind implementing the new text. With no internal development of its own, and no support from the original team, Enix America's decision to drop the title certainly makes sense.

This answer is total BS. Why?

So what? Hack it like everyone else in the world. Fans are glad to hack games all the time to translate them without any knowledge of how it was programmed. Offer them money and hackers of this sort should be easy to find.

The Official Main Series Title! (3.6.2002)

Dragon Quest 4 for PlayStation
According to The GIA, Enix has canceled the US release of Dragon Quest 4 for PlayStation. They might consider it to be an old system, or maybe they just aren't making enough from Dagon Warrior 7. This also means it is unlikely they will release Dragon Quest Monsters 1&2 for the PlayStation. But you can still cross your fingers that Enix will release both these games for the Game Boy Advance.

Game-Arena Interactive is creating a Dragon Warrior 1 remake. It will be in 3D (with a third person perspective), it will have original graphics, voices for NPC's, and online capability. Other than that it will almost completely be like the original Dragon Warrior game. Dragon Warrior 1: The Remake will be free, and it is already nearing completion.

Game-Arena Interactive is a small team of developers that have formed to make a small Oklahoma, US based Game Production company.
