Dragon Warrior 4 for PlayStation
Pendy (the head webmaster of the Dragon Quest & Dragon Warrior News Network) found some great news: The GIA added more Dragon Warrior 4 information and screen shots.

Want to Make a Dragon Warrior Game?
I should mention that RPGmaker is a pirated program. It was illigally translated and distributed. This was mentioned in an earlier news post about David and Lisha's Adventure being post-poned. Because of this, Erdrick to Zenithia will also be cancelled. Do not make a fan game using RPGMaker. If you really want to make a Dragon Warrior game and you don't want to program the entire thing yourself just wait a while. RPGking is creating a guide to making your own Dragon Warrior game. He has already created a Dragon Warrior engine using Verge2. You won't have to go through all the work yourself.

Byuu's Dragon Quest 5 Translation 0.91
Byuu's Webpage has released a new patch for Dragon Quest 5. It fixes some bugs, some untranslated text. Many monster names, items, and spells are still based on the NES Dragon Warrior translations, but the next release will be retranslated to have more Japanese terms (such as Hoimi Slime instead of Healer).

dragoNite
DragoNite (a fan game) is still being created. Go to the website for more information.

Dragon Quest 5 Translations (Updated)
Two Dragon Qust 5 translations have been completed. Byuu's Webpage has released a completed translation based on Dragon Quest with a more literal translation.

Dejap & Partial Translations released their completed Dragon Quest 5 translation at the Partial Translations website. This translation is based on the NES version of Dragon Warrior and is more Americanized.

Dragon Quest 5 has slightly better graphics than Dragon Warrior 4. It has great casinoes with slime races, lots of monsters that will join you, and it has a great storyline about the lifespan of the hero. It starts when you are a child and eventually you get to choose a wife and get married. The game is very smooth so you should have to spend very little time leveling up.
To get monsters to join you all you need is a wagon. They even join in dungeons as long as you still have room.

To use the translations you will need a Dragon Quest 5 ROM, the translation patch, and a ROM patcher (IPS Patcher).

New Bonus Comics
Even though I don't want to update the comic page since my site is under contruction I made this bonus comic about red slime kings! That's right! There's no such thing! I have no idea why not. Red slimes rule.

11.30.2000: There is a dark reddish king slime in Dragon Quest 6, but it is supposed to be a kind of healer or curer king.

I also made this lil comic about how in video game RPGs you can always come back to life unless you die from the storyline (Ortega). In Final Fantasy games they usually claim the characters are just unconcious no matter how many hits from a giant ogre's club they take.

Dragon Warrior 4 Remake
The GIA and Magic Box made previews for the PlayStation version of Dragon Warrior 4. This remake will be released 11.22.01 in Japan as Dragon Quest 4 and in 2002 in the US. I personally speculate that some statistics will be changed in the remake to make the game faster but hopefully more challenging, and the final chapter should have an option to control all the party members. Here are some bonuses known for sure to be in the Dragon Warrior 4 remake so far:
  • Monster animations
  • Better graphics.
  • New translation.
  • The return of the Day/Night system.
  • It will have a battle statistics screen.
  • 150 titles (such as warrior or merchant) will be awarded to characters when they reach certain conditions.
  • The Dragon Warrior 7 inter-party Talk command.

Dragon Warrior 8 Online?
The GIA posted some information about how Dragon Warrior 8 might have online capabilities. Don't worry. I'm sure it will just be an option for it, and that you wouldn't have to play it online if you don't want to.

Dragon Warrior 3 GBC Spelling Patch
Daniel (Erdrick) created a Dragon Warrior 3 GBC Spelling/Consistency Patch and posted it here.

11.12.2001

Dragon Warrior Legend
RPGking is still working on Dragon Warrior Legend. Right now Dragon Warrior Legend is being ported to WinV2, which will replace the Verge 2.6 version. WinV2 will be compatable with more computers, there will be a better graphics option (2XSAI graphics mode), and it will have gamepad support.

The Dragon Warrior Legend website has a free demo, and a message board where you can post comments and ideas.

Fan Game: David and Lisha's Adventure Update
David and Lisha's Adventure is being changed to Dragon Warrior: The Epic continues, and also it is being post-poned. The reason why is in his own words:

Hello All,

Digiwarrior here. I just have some news for you (some good some great, and some bad) Well I found out that the program I was using was illegal, that's not a good way to start a game. Then i heard about a more powerul maker coming out, Rpg Ds, and looked it over. I found that it's much better anyway. So now I'm helping out the maker of this new program and then when it comes out I'm going to use it to make a diffrent game. You see i was getting good at the other program but i went right to making my game.

I keep making changes to my style and well had to go back and fix things a few times. I am going to make a diffrent game first. It's based on the same series (Dragon Warrior, why else would it be here on this site) and quite a few other games. Go to http://www.dreamwater.net/skysoft/WotHome.html for more info, currentally the site is being added to but it has a lot of info. The game's name is War of the Tamers and the basic story line is the Master Monster Tamers are getting too old and no one is good enough to replace them. Everyone wantning to become a tamer is more or less put onto a contest against everyone else (hints the name). With over 300 diffrent people fighting against you it's easy to see why the game's going to be hard for anyone not use to monster games.

On that site link there is a lot of info about what the game is going to be like, it even has some hints about the Secert System. Once the game is released EVERYONE will KNOW what the secret system is no mater how un-experienced they are (you might want to read the Background page often. Soon a hint about what the system is will be put up ;)

War of the Tamers will be the best monster catching/breeding/training game EVER. It includes advanced training, breeding, battle, skill, and magic systems (and a few others too). Well I'm just saying what's on the site so I'll stop. I just want to say drop by, and for your sake you might want to bookmark the News Page (once i make it that is). I plan on making the news page on 11/10/00. Thanks for reading, and please visit the site every now and then (even if it's once a week). Drop me a line if you want to Digiwarrior@skysoft.s5.com

Little Miso's Dragon Warrior VII Review
When everybody sees every single RPG being 3D nowadays, Dragon Warrior is still keeping its old-school style. And they did it well. Dragon Warrior VII is a treat for all, and is not for those who lack imagination, those who target graphics. If you like to use your imagination a lot of times, you'll enjoy Dragon Warrior VII.

Dragon Warrior VII is the RPG many Dragon Warrior fans, including myself, have been waiting for. Some enjoy Final Fantasy, including myself. Some may even enjoy RPGs that aren't part of a big series.

Enix has offered Dragon Warrior fans what they have wanted for nine years. They've experienced pretty loose translations on Game Boy Color due to space, but since PSX is a console system, they were able to make the translation true to the original DWs, while still making a translation true to Yuji Horii's original text.

The engine is practically the nicest new innovation to DW ever yet. With camera angles to see other things in this strange new world, and a battle system with the "Talk" option, who could ask for more?

Downside: GUMPOD NOT DUNG! j/k, The Wagon seems to be missing, no more "member" command.

Rating: 9.7/10

Dragoon X Omega Review
Raukodraug has reviewed a fan-game hack of Dragon Warrior 1 for the NES. Go to the fan game section for more information on Dragoon X Omega.

Score - 4/5

Having now played 2 other fan-made games (Warrior Dragon and Dragon King) this is by far the best.

A not-so-straight forward hack of the original Dragon Warrior ROM, it not only completely revamps the map, but creates an original and compelling storyline, new graphics, and a new score.

Unlike the borrowed sprites in Dragon King and the average graphics of Warrior Dragon, Dragoon X Omega has solid, professional looking graphics that are up to the quality of an original NES game.

Also, by using the original ROM as its base, Dragoon X Omega has the same great gameplay of the original Dragon Warrior. It has a full range of spells, which were missing in both Warrior Dragon and Dragon King. It also never resorts to ridiculously hard enemies or painfully long and confusion dungeons to add challenge and game playtime, as seen in the other fan-made games I've played.

I had only one problem with Dragoon X Omega, once patched the ROM gave a checksum error and wouldn't run with my normal emulator (NESticle). In the end though, by changing emulators (to JNES) I found a fun and rewarding game that is by far the best fan-madegame I've played.
