Introduction

Lots of news, and lots of website updates, and lots more to come.

I am planning on remaking the Dragon: the Quest game. I have a lot of ideas for it, such as making it more like Magic: the Gathering. The basic idea will stay the same: A game like Magic, but without mana lands. But I think I will have 5 colors of cards, like in Magic. Instead of tapping lands to get mana you will just get bonuses if you have cards of the right color in your graveyard.

I am also thinking of making a Dragon Quest character guide. The character guide can have pictures, background information, and information on their spells. Eventually it might expand to have information on all the important items and towns, and eventually it might be a kind of encyclopedia. Planet Nintendo has a Dragon Quest 4 character guide that is similar to my vision. RPGclassics also has some similar character guides.

I found a Dragon Warrior flash movie website called Der Dragon Warrior..

Dragon Quest I.II Save-State Editor
Cynsob and Zeke D have made a Dragon Quest I.II Save-State Editor for the Super Famicom remake. Eventually it will work with all the Super Famicom Dragon Quest games. So far you can use it to edit character stats and levels.

Download it here. Send bugs to mgardner@spamcop.net.

Never Ending Scroll
I believe Never Ending Scroll might be one of the few finished Dragon Warrior fan games. I have posted about this game before, but the old website seems to be gone. If you get a chance to play it please write a review and email me it at mageslime@yahoo.com.

Princess Alena's Adventure II
DiasFlec has started to work on this RPGMaker game based on Dragon Quest IV. Go here to see the progress made.

Dragon Warrior Quest Review
Rubius and Flash made this online Dragon Warrior game for BYOND a while back. Here is a review for Dragon Warrior Quest by Green Jedi (who is working on a Dragon Warrior game of his own):

The Best Online Dragon Warrior Game (4/5)

I my opinion, this has to be the best Dragon Warrior game on BYOND. I have also played Dragon Warrior Online and Rebirth, which are both excellent games, but Dragon Warrior Quest comes out on top because of it's versatility. You can start in one of two towns, and the adventure is quite different for each one. The game itself is very well balanced. You gain a fair amount of gold and exp in battles, and level ups and stats are also balanced nicely. But the one thing that makes this one game stand out from all the others is classes. You can start out as one of 7 different classes. Each one has it's own pros and cons and makes for a different experience for the first half of the game. As you play, you will discover the Dharma Shrine, where you can actually CHANGE YOUR CLASS! Just like in Dragon Warrior 3, you have to be at least level 20 in your current class to change, but that doesn't mean you should! Your stats drop by half every time you do. As you proceed through the game, you will discover ANOTHER SHRINE! This one allows you to change class into one of the game's 11 specialty classes! But only if you have mastered (that is, reached level 26) some of the basic classes. Each is unique and has it's own signature powers.

Here's a breakdown of the game's features:
  • Dragon Warrior-style menus
  • TONS of spells and skills
  • HUD (that's the Dragon Warrior-style windows in the battle screen)
  • Sticks to 8-bit graphics, giving it the real DW feel
  • Lots of enemies and bosses
  • Lots of class-specific weapons, armor and even accessories
  • Very little bugs (and those that do pop up are fixed pronto)
  • You really need to EXPLORE to find stuff, it's not just in the next cave.
  • Some areas will be familiar (though still challenging) to DW veterans
  • The plot is pretty good, even though there's none at the beginning.
Here's some of it's cons:
  • No party system
  • No multi-monster battles
  • No vehicles (no ship, bird, carpet or anything)

Dragon Quest Monsters III Mini Review
Focus has played the new Dragon Quest Monsters game and he gave his two cents about it at my message board. He was pretty dissapointed with it so far:

So far from what i've played it is a real departure from dwm1 and the dwm2s. The world map is a modified dw2 world map. The use of food is a real pain since if you run out of food your monster starts losing hp per step. The gold you get from defeating monsters is not enough to cover the cost of food. The humans in your wagon alternate helping each battle round. Warriors attack, mages cast firebal, merchants steal 10 gold (they can only steal once though per battle), priests can heal, etc. I've gotten 4 monster spirits so far but no new monsters have joined my group. There are only 7 monster classes now. Battle animation of monsters is really cheap; just a zoom in effect. So in closing I am really disappointed in this dqm game.

Dragon Warrior Legend
Dragon Warrior Legend is a fan-made Dragon Warrior game by RPGking. It is now nearly finished. RPGking will make a Verge2.6 revision 6 port of Dragon Warrior Legend (as well as a WinV2 version). This means it is nearly certain that Linux and Windows users can play Dragon Warrior Legend.

Dragon Warrior Legend will have over 14 tracks of original music composed by silenttwn (Robert Harrington).

Dragon Quest 5 Remake
Games Are Fun reports a rumor that the remake of Dragon Quest 5 is being made. For some reason they believe that it will have no alterations, but that is unlikeley considered all the Dragon Quest remakes are greatly improved.

Dragon Quest Monsters 3: New Slimes
Dragon Quest Monsters 3: Caravan Hearts will have some new slimes. Here is the Dark Knight and Magic Slime. The Dark Knight rides on the new evil Dark Slime. Maybe the Magic Slime will be translated to be Mage Slime.

Dragon Warrior Causes Senality
Here's an interesting article about Dragon Warrior. For Those who have remained on the slime levels for longer than 5 hours developed symptoms of demensia and became exceedingly violent torwards Enix, the creater of Dragon Warrior.

Dragon Quest Livejournal Community
There is a new community to discuss Dragon Quest. There are a lot of great links to Dragon Quest Monsters 3 information and images, and some translations of the Japanese website.
